Well, I definitely survived the progressive dinner last night. Unfortunately, Friday night my uncle went into the hospital for having petit mal seizures, a month of cold sweats/feeling like he had the flu, shaking profusely, and then finally, losing coherency. When he arrived by ambulance to the hospital he had a full blown seizure (this kind of thing has never happened before). By Saturday he was so sick he didn't know where he was, his shaking was uncontrollable, and in the middle of sentences he would go unconscious. It was very scary and the doctors weren't sure what was wrong. He was moved to ICU and it is suspected that he may have cancer.
Needless to say this put a damper on my party spirit. But, after a lot of deliberating I decided to still have my family over to our new house and not go onto the other two houses. Since he was in ICU there wasn't anything I could do at that point and we'd spent a lot of time and money on this party. After our house I wanted to be available if he took a turn for the worse and to be with that side of the family. This made what was typically a food challenge, very simple. I stuck to my guns and only had the mexican salad and fat-free buffalo chicken dip. It was easy because being a hostess always prevents me from grazing at the food table.
This morning I went to the hospital to visit my uncle and he was up and talking. He was actually coherent but looked weak and exhausted. The doctors still don't know what is/was wrong but being able to talked to him cheered me up. Hopefully they will be able to determine what caused these awful symptoms.
